Aristotle thought that "art was imitation " . From the 19th century onwards, came the theory that art was expression. Art is at times regarded as a vehicle of knowledge or moral betterment or social improvement and often as a purely aesthetic experience . But is it the emotion being expressed that counts , the relief at having expressed it or the viewer's reception ?
